July 25, 2022: OMG! What a really, really tough final day, cycling against such strong headwinds that made most of the 56 miles today feel like we were cycling uphill constantly under a brutal sun and heat reaching 94 degrees (34C) over the 7 hours, stops only for a smoothie and quick lunch, 5 hours 45 minutes constant cycling. We took only a few pics, we were so focused and pushing into the wind. But we could have a laugh as we got closer to Vienna, noticing a woman cycling topless. An older woman LOL… As we cycled onto the Donauinsel, the park on an island between the little Danube and the big Danube in Vienna, we saw a sign: FKK. “That’s exactly what I want to say!” said my niece, exhausted from the heat and wind. We turn and cycle down a hill and then suddenly see some naked men walking toward us up the hill. I repeat. Toward us. Turns out FKK is a nude beach. I quickly look down at my GoPro video camera on the handlebars to make sure it’s off, out of respect. Our SENA connected cycling helmets let my niece and me talk to each other over a Bluetooth intercom the entire trip. As we pass more men, I hear my niece gasp, which makes me laugh out loud. We finally reach the hotel in Vienna, drop off the bikes. 215 miles in 4 days! Not bad for two women over 50! We head for the bar to first gulp cold Diet Cokes — which never tasted as good as on this trip — and then the bubbles!
