Along the Danube, Again, 13 Years Later!
July 22, 2022: Taking off from Passau, Germany, with my niece to cycle along the Danube River, hoping to go about 200 miles over the next 4 days through Austria to Vienna. Gorgeous landscape! Around lunch time, we cycle behind a building looking for a restaurant. I get off my bike to look in the windows, no one there. I get back on the bike but now it won’t move! The front tire is stuck. We both try to figure out what is wrong, why it won’t rotate, no luck. I call the tour company. They’re looking for another bike to bring to me, hours away from Passau. After a half hour, I look more closely at the bike. I had inadvertently bent the front fender getting off so it was blocking the tire. I simply bent it back, and voila! It worked! OMG! I quickly called the tour company and told them we were able to fix the problem (too embarrassed to tell them how minor it was). Luckily they hadn’t sent anyone yet! Very hot out, took us almost 7 hours to reach only 45 miles with our stop for lunch and the minor repair plus all the ferry crossings. But so, so beautiful en route to Pupping, Austria, especially through the Schlönger Loop.
